For many consumers now on Windows 10 your version of the OS – Home versus Pro – depends directly on the previous upgraded OS. More specifically, if your computer had a license for Windows 7 Home Premium you upgraded to Windows 10 Home. Likewise, if you were on Windows 8 Pro your version of the OS should be Windows 10 Pro. This article has been completely rewritten to incorporate developments in recent feature updates to Windows 10. I've been testing upgrade/activation scenarios on a wide variety of hardware over the years to see how things work. In recent versions of Windows 10, the upgrade from Home to Pro is quick and easy.

As of now you lose Windows Spotlight if you upgrade to pro. I installed the Pro ISO on my HP Stream 7 and didn't have to pay a cent. Only if you are an insider you have the option to defer upgrades. Yeah i fk had windows 8.1 pro and now i got windows 10 home. Daniel Rubino is the Editor-in-chief of Windows Central, head reviewer, podcast co-host, and analyst.

The same goes for many Lenovo's and even my HP x360 Spectre. This could also be the case if you took advantage of the free Windows 10 upgrade offer on a PC running a Home edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8.x. Restart your computer once you have the completion message 100% complete on the screen. If you got your copy of Microsoft Windows 10 Pro elsewhere for a cut off the original price ($99.99), you may just get a License Key to activate the software. Good afternoon all, I've been trying to change DNS servers for the best part of a day but Windows 10 (both Home & Pro) is steadfastly resisting my attempts. I've set the IPv4 adapter settings for both Google and OpenDNS servers but when I run... I'm trying to trigger an event in Windows 10 Home task scheduler based on a file change. W10 Home doesn't support gpedit.msc so I can't create an event id- there are some tweaks available to load gpedit into W10 Home but I don't know if any are...

Then, I found out that I didn't need the Pro features so I now want to downgrade back to Home... If your Windows 10 Home is not currently activated by a digital license, then you will need to Change product key to a Windows 10 Home key to activate. Note that you can upgrade to the Pro edition without a key or license. If you like the Pro edition after trying out the features it offers, you can purchase the key later by performing the instructions mentioned above again. Upgrade from Windows 10 Home edition to Pro edition is not free. The Home edition of Windows 10 is designed for home users, and it is perfect for most users who do not need the advanced security and business features available in the Pro edition.

8 Best Starter Toolkits of 2022

One of my biggest complaints about pre-assembled toolkits doesn’t always concern the tools included in the kit. Rather, it’s the plastic cases that the kits sometimes come packed in. Many cases can be aggravating to snap tools into and, even once the tools have been returned to their spot, I’m often infuriated when I try to close the kit, only to have a number of seemingly secure tools, fall out of their designated spots.

The Workpro W009036A avoids all of this by packaging its tools in a tool bag. This ensures that your tools are secure and, as a bonus, that you’ll have the extra space in the bag to store new tools in you may buy over time, as required. Unfortunately, the quality of the tools in the W009036A aren’t as high a quality as those in our main pick.

Intended Projects

Designed for both professionals and DIYers, this kit is extremely comprehensive with quick-release ratchets in three sizes, 125 sockets, 14 combination wrenches, numerous drive sockets, and so much more. Our first project revealed something that seems to be an issue with this tool set—inconsistent quality. At 13 ounces, the hammer is a decent weight for putting nails in a wall stud, and the tape measure extends, stops, and retracts easily. This must-have 65 Piece Homeowner’s Tool Set has the tools you need to tackle a variety of tasks around the house. Whether you’re doing basic repairs, hanging pictures or cutting through boxes, this tool kit will equip you with the high-quality STANLEY® essentials required to complete many DIY projects. When my partner and I moved into our RV, one of our first purchases was a starter toolkit.

In this set, you’ll get an electric drill, impact driver, reciprocating saw, circular saw, multi-tool, and worklight, as well as a 1.5 Ah battery and 4 Ah battery. Because the tools are all part of the brand’s ONE+ platform, you can use the same batteries in all of them, as well as in other RYOBI ONE+ tools. The Stanley 65-Piece Homeowner’s Tool Kit covers your tool basics, includes some extras, and stores it all in a hardshell case that keeps everything organized.

Stanley 94-248 65-Piece Homeowner's Tool Kit

This mini set is perfect for college students living in dormitories, apartment dwellers, to put in an emergency kit, or for anyone who never needs anything much beyond a hammer or screwdriver. For those who do minimal work around the house, a budget pick like the Apollo Tools 39-Piece General Repair Hand Tool Set will be more than enough for your needs. This highly rated kit is incredibly wallet-friendly and it includes all your basic tools in a convenient, compact storage case. Although we had a few minor issues with the Stanley tool kit, we found the balance of tool quality to price to be well worth it. This isn’t a kit you can bring to a construction site, but it’s got the tools you need for basic home maintenance in solid weights, durable casings , and a solid case. We tested a Black & Decker tool kit that had a storage bag rather than a hard case.

stanley home tool kit

These are simple tools that make life easier and let you take care of home maintenance. We hung a picture, replaced batteries in toys, and cut boxes using the Stanley tools. None of them were big projects, but each required basic tools to get the job done. A basic home repair tool kit should include a tape measure, screwdrivers, pliers, a level, a hammer, nails, screws, wire cutters, pencils, painter’s tape, a cordless drill, utility blades , a straightedge, and more as needed. Put any tool that you use regularly around the house in your home repair tool kit.

Shipping and handling

The mid-priced Stanley 65-piece Homeowner’s Tool Kit has the tools and quality to cover basic home tasks. Kits usually come in a handy case that makes it easy to keep everything organized while keeping the tools protected during storage. We put the Stanley through basic household jobs to see how it held up. Even though it's not the most important factor to consider when buying a tool kit, you should think about how much space it will take up in your home. If you’re living in a small apartment, a kit with several hundred pieces will take up a solid chunk of your storage space and rarely come in useful. If you plan to work on your car, you’ll need a quality mechanics tool set, such as this 194-piece kit from Husky.

The Stanley Rule and Level Company was founded in 1857 by Frederick Trent Stanley's cousin, Henry Stanley, also in New Britain. In 1920, this company merged with the Stanley Works, and continued operating as its hand tools division. Stanley Hand ToolsProduct typeHand toolsOwnerStanley Black & DeckerCountryUnited StatesIntroduced1857Previous ownersThe Stanley WorksWebsite Hand Tools is a brand of hand tools. It is a division of Stanley Black & Decker, following the merger of The Stanley Works with Black & Decker in March 2010. The hardshell allowed us to stack other items on top of it or around it without damaging the tools inside.

Basic plumbing and bolts that fall either above or below the provided sockets will require additional tools. That means you’ll make short work of assembling furniture, tightening screws, hanging pictures, fixing that drooping door or garden gate, or any other common tasks on the honey-do list. And while these tools might not be professional quality, they are sturdy enough so that just about any average DIYer can rely on dependable performance use after use after use. It's the perfect tool kit for anyone just starting their tool collection, a new homeowner, or anyone who enjoys handling their own repairs around the house and garden.

Each tool has a plastic molded holder in the case, which we also liked. Stanley’s case gets extra credit from us for keeping everything organized and easy to grab. Our premium STANLEY FATMAX range includes a selection of our highest quality and best performing tools and equipment, giving serious Pro’s a significant advantage over the job. Whether on the belt, in the hand, or on the jobsite, choose STANLEY FATMAX to be sure you’re equipped with the very best of our best.

We anticipated plenty of small repairs and adjustments we would need to do on the move. Four years later, while many of the tools are still mostly functional, they've become rusty and the kit's hinges have split. Recently, the socket wrench adapter snapped in two while I attempted to remove a stubborn oil pan plug. I’ve invested in many new, high-quality tools over the years, but I still resent the poor quality of the first kit I purchased—and I’d love to save you from that frustration. However, the one included in the Stanley kit convinced me that a good hammer can make a big difference when you’re working on a repair or building something new. The grip on the Stanley hammer was the most comfortable out of all the hammers tested for this guide—I felt like the force of my strikes were actually being directed onto the nail, rather than bouncing off of it.

Simultaneously, other tools were held so tightly that we had a hard time getting them in and out. I live full-time in a 40-foot long motorhome, so while my path to homeownership might not be the same as yours, much of the maintenance I do inside of our RV is similar to the repairs you might encounter in your house or apartment. Is the best toolkit for anyone interested in doing their own home repairs. How those businesses take care of those complaints is what separates good businesses from the rest. I called asking to cancel a police of a car, for 3 times I asked them if everything was ok and my card will not be charged, but my card was charged.

"Complaints Unresolved" tells how many complaints consumers have filed about the company on Scambook. "Unresolved Reported Damages"shows how much money has been lost by all of users who filed complaints against the company. I have called numerous times to have my garbage disposal fixed. I waited each time almost an hour on the phone either to be disconnected or several actually getting through. I was given the name of a plumber that would be out.

third world experience

I had a lot of concerns after reading all those negative reviews. I called customer service (and I talked to the same person who signed me up with Stanley!). I had no waiting time, and he walked me through the policy and answered all my questions. I have a much better understanding now, and I feel confident that Stanley was the right choice.

Just bought a coverage for kitchen appliances. I tried to contact customer service about unclear details in agreement. I cancelled the coverage same day after reading multiple complains. Will see how many years it will take to get my money back. Unfortunately Customers rarely put in reviews when they are happy.

THIS IS A BAD COMPANY NO RESPONSE

I asked them about canceling my policy and was told I needed to speak to a cancelation specialist. Reviews for Stanley Warranty, also known as Stanley Safe Club, here on HomeWarrantyReviews.com are almost entirely negative. The reviews reflect an apparent trend of the company not honoring its promises to customers or contractors who performed repairs on its behalf. Many of the worst reviews mention repair contractors pursuing payments from the homeowners after Stanley Warranty failed to fulfill its duty to make those payments in a timely manner. We maintain complete transparency with the readers on our website. The company rankings on our site are independent of any marketing relationships that we may hold with a home warranty company.

Luckily i had the manager's email and contacted him and got immediate assistance. It is difficult to navigate back to a page you want to revisit. As a consumer I like to speak with a customer service representative that knows what they are doing. I would like to hear more confidence coming from the customer service department. A good customer service department contact should not evoke stress. It could save you many times the repair costs of your vehicle.

Charged for service before signing contract

I have been trying to file a claim since September 14th. The Gold service never received the information from Stanley and I have been calling back and forward almost a month because I have a broken down car that I have no coverage to pay for the service. I have been speaking to several customer service as well as the supervisor. I call in yesterday left a message with a Victoria about issue she advised I would get a call back from Trevor but 24 hours later still no call!! I am currently contacting the BBB in NJ filing a complaint. Perhaps the most insulting element of this story is that Stanley Warranty sold its service contracts with a promise of zero service fees.

I have received a policy number in this email. I have yet to receive a policy which would detail my coverage or tell me how to file a claim should I have one. This company needs to upgrade their skills and customer service.

Scambook Score

Stanley services tens of thousands of customers and if you compared percentages in the industry we would be one of the lowest. Its important to build a relationship and an understanding with the company and its representatives. Once you do that, they want to do things for you and make the customer happy.

I read the reviews online at 3 different sites. Almost everyone complained about this company being a rip off. I am worried that when my policy become effective that I would loose my money. I am not sure that I chose the right company. I bought this company for peace of mind on my rental property that is out of state. Thinking I will cancel my policy and look for another company.

Among the state’s specific complaints against the company were alleged offenses that specifically involved Stanley’s home service contract customers. Stanley also operated a business unit which provided consumers with extended service agreements for motor vehicles, commonly called auto warranties. The hold time and the music is enough to make you want to hang up and contact a different company not to mention it is not great for blood pressure. To top it off after a long hold time you are very likely going to get disconnected.

This is the best way to manage and repair your business reputation. Hiding negative complaints is only a Band-Aid. Consumers want to see how a business took care of business.

When I get the extra money I'm going to cover my second car. I've read a lot of bad reviews about Stanley Safe Club and I'm just praying they're not a rip off. Customer service and they don't care about you or your refund. I will be filing in small claims court to get my claim payment refund.

PeopleClaim is a new way to resolve disputes online without lawyers or mediators. By inviting suggestions from the public, disputing parties get ideas that can lead to settlement – and the person who contributed them can win a reward. I think you should receive the pro-rata amount minus the $50 cancellation fee, per their terms.

Business Profile Summary

After several days I called the plumber who had neither heard about me or Stanley. Now I am going to call a plumber myself to get it replaced as it now leaks. I wish there were a way to keep them from ripping off more people who purchase a non-existent warranty from this company. Have been trying to get a hold of a customer service representative and seems like no is ever there. I get placed on hold until eventually an answering machine picks up. However if you attempt to get a hold of a sales rep they answer right away.
